If you want to become happy and truly experience joy, the best way to go is to live a balanced life. What is a balanced life? How do you achieve it? This article will answer these questions. This piece will attempt to define a balanced life and will give a step by step guide on starting a life of balance.
Defining a Balanced Life
What is a balanced life? You can probably get different definitions if you ask several people this question, but essentially, to me, a life that is in balance is one where you feel much happiness in the important areas of your life. This means that you have fulfilled or are fulfilling the needs of each aspect of life, such as your job, your relationships, and other important parts. You are happy, calm, motivated, and you do not feel too much stress from any of these parts.
Achieving a Life of Balance
In order to achieve balance, you need to do a few things first and then change your life bit by bit until you get a glimpse of the goal. But you mustn’t stop there; you must keep moving forward and keep on living a balanced life. So what are the things that you should do? There are basically three things: knowing your priorities, making a plan, and making a schedule.
Knowing Your Priorities
The first thing that you should do is to identify your priorities. This is important because you want to have focus. If you don’t have priorities, it will be hard to pinpoint what exactly you’ll do to achieve balance. Also, this will help to narrow down your targets so that you’ll know what to focus on and achieve optimum joy.
To do this, make a list of the things that you consider important. If you think about it in a general sense, there are several things that you can come up with (health, money, family, relationships, spiritual well-being, etc). So, list about ten things and then compare these items. Which among them is most important to you? Choose at least 5, so that they aren’t too many and you won’t be spread too thin. Then, proceed to the next step once you’ve come up with a list.
Making a Plan
Since you now know your priorities, it’s time to make a plan of action for each. Think about what needs to be done for each part in order to make that fulfilled. Then, think about what you can do to achieve that. Write your plan of action beside each item or write it in a separate paper.
It’s important to remember that the plan you’re going to make should be one that can be applied on a daily or weekly basis. This is because living a balanced life is a personal development move and requires daily or weekly action in order to become a reality. For more information on making a daily plan, refer to Planning – The Day to Day.
Making a Schedule
Once your plans for all aspects of your life are ready, proceed to make a schedule. This is important because this will serve as your go signal and your push to action. So, simply make a schedule and integrate these activities in your normal day to day routine. You can eliminate previous tasks or cut down the time you spend for them, to make way for your new tasks.
Remember not to schedule too many tasks so that you won’t become overwhelmed with work to do. Schedule others to another day if it’s not feasible and it gets in the way of your other tasks especially your time for rest. For more on making a schedule, read: Schedule and Set Yourself Up to Win.
After finishing your schedule, simply follow it and stick with what you’ve come up with. If things aren’t working out well, make some changes and make it work for you.
